What does “Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) Issued” mean on a building permit?

Also shown as: TCO Issued (LADBS)

A Temporary Certificate of Occupancy has been issued at LADBS, allowing you to occupy the building before every last item is finished. A TCO is granted when minor, non-life-safety items remain — the building is safe to occupy in part, but the full Certificate of Occupancy is still pending completion of those items.

What should you do when a permit shows “Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) Issued”?

You may occupy the building under the terms of the TCO, but you must still complete the outstanding minor items to convert it to a full Certificate of Occupancy. Track the remaining punch-list items and schedule the final inspections; a TCO usually has an expiration, so do not let it lapse before finishing.
