Before issuance LADBS

What does “Pre-Inspection” mean on a building permit?

Also shown as: Pre-Insp Required / Not Required (LADBS)Pre-Insp Fees Due / Paid (LADBS)Pre-Insp Completed (LADBS)

These statuses track a pre-plan-check site visit at LADBS. 'Pre-Insp Required / Not Required' indicates whether a site visit is needed before plan check; 'Pre-Insp Fees Due / Paid' tracks the fee for that visit; and 'Pre-Insp Completed' means the pre-plan-check inspection is done. A pre-inspection is a field check that happens before the main plan-check review, common on additions and alterations where the existing structure must be verified.

What should you do when a permit shows “Pre-Inspection”?

If a pre-inspection is required, pay the pre-inspection fee and let the field visit happen. Once it shows 'Pre-Insp Completed', plan check can proceed. If 'Not Required', no action is needed and this step is skipped.
